Philippe GAUTIER
Professor and Registrar of the ICJ
Philippe Gautier is the Registrar of the International Court of Justice (as of 1st August 2019). From 2001 to 2019, he served as Registrar of the Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, after having served as Deputy Registrar of the Tribunal from 1997 to 2001. He is also a professor at the University of Louvain (UCLouvain) where he has been teaching since 1993. From 1984 to 1997, he worked at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he was, inter alia, Head of the Treaties Division (1995-1997) and Head of the Law of the Sea/Antarctica Office (1991-1995). He is listed as an arbitrator under Annex VII to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Prof Dr Philippe Gautier is regularly lecturing in various universities and is the author of numerous publications on law of treaties, environmental law, settlement of disputes, law of the sea and Antarctica.
